Bangla New Year:


The first day of Bangla year is called Bangla New Year. Pahela Baishakh is the first day Bangla New Year. 

It is a part and partcel of Bangalee culture. This is a public holiday too

bears a great significance for our national life. 


It is deeply related to our national identi and unity. People of Bangladesh celebrate it by various traditional activities or festivities

On this day trader and shop keepers will open halkhata and offer sweets to their customers The largest festival of Banglee Culture. 

"Baishakhi Mela", is held on this day. Almost all of the leading cultural organizations have drawn up elaborate programmes to celebrate the day. 


BTV will telecast various programmes to observe the day. National dailies also bring out special supplements to observe the day. Students and teachers of the institute of Fine Arts (IFA) of Dhaka University bring out a colourful procession carrying festoon, placards


posters, baners and wearing masks to welcome the Bangla New Year. Urban people try to keep a while away from their mimicry of western culture and try their best to be Bangale by doing our traditional things on this day.


But in the villages, people wake up early in the morning and wear traditonal dresses. 

They also try to do good things on this day and they also meet one another and give and receive invitation. 


Women wear red-bordered saris and adorn themselves with colourful laces, bangles and flowers. Men wear paijama and punjabi on this day. 

People of all walks of life, especially the young generation, are the more interested people to celebrate the day.
